「朝日珊瑚事件」の取材に来たマスコミが殺到し、のべ百隻余りの船が取材したが、その際に錨を落としたことから、一年後には件のアザミサンゴの周辺のサンゴがボキボキに折られ白い傷口を無残に晒し、皮肉にも同じマスメディアの取材で周囲の珊瑚礁が傷だらけになっていた。対照的に当時傷が元に戻るのに数十年かかると報道されていた被害珊瑚は一年後の時点で傷が再生し、問題の文字が解らない状態になっていた。また事件で有名になったサンゴを見物するためにやってきたダイバーによって周辺の珊瑚礁にスクーバ・タンクをぶつける被害なども出ている。
